Submitting Virus Samples
A solution-specific guide to submitting virus samples.

1.Introduction:

Antivirus solutions detect malicious software - viruses, worms and trojans - and disable or remove them from your computer system. This is generally accomplished by detecting the tell-tale "signatures" of these malicious programs.

There are several reasons that you may need to send in a sample of a virus or a file you suspect to be infected by a virus. Our technicians may ask you to submit a sample for further analysis or you may believe that you have received a virus of some kind that we did not detect. In the second case in particular, we ask that you please send us a sample of the virus at your earliest convenience.

The simplest way to get that sample to us is by forwarding it to us as an e-mail attachment - but be advised that in some cases, deliberately sending a potentially active virus via e-mail - even with the most benevolent of intentions - may be in violation of your usage agreement with your Internet Service Provider.

Please see below links to MoSo Anti-Malware's solution-specific procedures that can be used when sending a virus sample to us:

2.How to submit a virus sample?:

Use an archiving utility (see detailed instructions below) to create a ZIP containing the suspicious file; password-protect it?with the password 'virus' or ‘infected’ and send attached in an e-mail to Solve@moatsoft.com .

3.Additional instructions for compressing samples:

Please compress and password-protect your file before submitting it to our researchers. If you do not compress and password-protect the file, it may be intercepted or blocked and fail to reach us.

You will also need to temporarily disable your Antivirus software as it may deny access to the file, preventing you from compressing it. To temporarily disable your Antivirus software, you can right click on the icon in your system tray and select the snooze option.
